Thanks to the efforts of groups like Growing Coachella Valley, the Coachella Valley Resource Conservation District (RCD) voted down Resolution No. 2017-06, a proposal that would have recommended an anti-neonicotinoid (neonic) policy to the Greater Coachella Valley Association of Governments. On August 11, 2017 the RCD heard from several local growers who voiced concern that the proposal would result in public outcry and misplaced concern over commercial pesticide use. Growing Coachella Valley’s position is that all pesticides are subject to an extensive approval and review process and any local ordinance restricting pesticide use would be preemptive of state regulations.
